I think the F1 could easily use a higher ISO for dashcam use than it currently does since high ISO on the F1 does not add a lot of noise. If you want to reduce motion blur then you need a faster shutter speed, which means using a faster lens (eg F1.8 instead of F2.8 will about treble the shutter speed.), or using a higher ISO. ![]() Using 60fps for dashcam use doesn't help, the shutter speed will be the same as for 30fps since the exposure will be the same, so the motion blur is also the same. I also found the standard lens to be too wide in 4K mode, resulting in there not being much more detail on number plates than with a normal narrower FHD dashcam, although with double the bitrate the quality of the video and dynamic range is much better than most dashcams. Unless you are driving off road then stabilisation is not required for dashcam use, if it is required then you should fit a stronger mount instead of stabilising the wobbly video, the car suspension should act as the stabiliser if you have a decent mount. I also found the 4K mode to be best, with sharpness set high. But can one get the info and detail of fast action in the 4k30fps feed or does one need the 60fps? Now the stabilization can be done post processing if one takes a 4k30fps feed. I think the 60fps is quite valuable and prevents the smearing with fast movement. 4k30fps or fullHD60fps with stabilization - or does the 4k30fps theoretically contain all the info of the full hd - probably not. without it 4h later of driving which for many people is what they do in a day. push the button and it's like writing down the number. LEts say you see a car entering the neighbourhood that doesnt belong there. Here is another reason if you record at 4k - a 128gb card gives u about 4h of recording time. I like having a button to press to store a clip. so you shouldnt push radio buttons and stations and turn signals and heating adjustments and the million other things we do when driving a car. Someone made comment that its distracting to push the button. GPS I think are kind of useless since the pic clearly shows where something takes place if there's ever a question. and as such it outperforms the full HD ones from blackvue and others. Here's why it should have the saving function. ![]() I'll give that a shot and try a sandisk ones.įor those with the same issue I have noticed if I turn of audio recording and set resolution to 1920/60fps it won't stop anymore with the samsung card.Īlso the camera (and battery gets pretty hot. I've used a number of Mobius cameras for almost 5 years as dashcams and the number one thing about them is that they are extremely reliable, and they also record decent video too. Anything else is nice to have, but too many 'features' and you start to risk affecting reliability. My two criteria for a dashcam are that it must record good quality video, and that it must be reliable. ![]() I don't agree that any dashcam must have an event save button - any more than it must have GPS for recording speed, a g-sensor to detect impacts, or a screen for aiming the camera. I've gone back to using a SanDisk Extreme and it's been trouble-free. I found that my F1 would stop recording as you describe when using any of my three Samsung EVO 64GB cards. Have you updated the firmware? There was a compatibility issue with some cards that was partially fixed by a firmware update. I have been using the F1 as a dashcam (and also flying with it too). it is a table stakes feature all somewhet serious dashboard cam contenders have. Dashcam setting, looping, 3min AutoOff, Wifi Off, 4k 30fps all default settings otherwise, 256GB Samsung cardĪbout the keep recordings if you push a button (taking eyes off the roady). it starts recording as it should but then after 3min or 10min. I have the issue that when I turn on the car. No I have not seen a supercap battery (although there was talk earlier in this thread - is there one out? if so do you have a link?) nor the bluetooth trigger (seemed something they're working on).
